Award recipient for:
- Outstanding Disability Service Employee, 2015
2015 Outstanding Disability Service Employee winner
Mavis White has worked with Somerville Community Services since May 1997 in the disability services program.
Since 2002, Mavis has been in supervisory and Coordinator positions with Somerville. During this time she has developed and continued to hone leadership and management skills, achieving accreditation in 2010. Mavis leads by example, understanding the need to ensure all of our staff met the criteria of “a skilled and competent workforce”. Since 2010 she has encouraged and supported six staff gain qualifications in Certificate III and/or IV Disability.
Mavis is passionate about improving the lives of people with disability and she supports Somerville’s commitment to provide a person-centred service that supports people to think big, aim high, identify and work towards meeting their desires and aspirations.
Mavis ensures all the people she supports have opportunities to be actively involved in activities of daily living to the best of their abilities. Over the years this has meant that people she has supported have developed sufficient skills to be able to gain employment, have reduced staff supervision and supports and ultimately lead more fulfilling lives. She is respected by management, her contemporaries, the staff she supports, the families of people in our care and the stakeholders with whom she works.
