About HPA - Helping People Achieve
2015 Outstanding Business and Community Initiative winner
HPA ‘Helping People Achieve’ is the only Australian Disability Enterprise in Darwin, providing supported employment to Territorians with Disabilities since 1936. HPA provides on the job training for 68 people with disabilities, with a focus on learning work skills needed to move onto open employment in the general workforce. Goals are made in annual employee action plans which are monitored throughout the year. HPA also offers work experience to 15 high school students with disabilities from Henbury School and Palmerston Special Education Centre, and also offers work ready skills development program for high school graduates who are not quite ready for the workforce.
In the last 12 months the HPA team have created an innovative new product for the Army Deference Force. This was a great experience for their employees, learning new skills, creating a brand new product, whilst also assisting the Deference Force. HPA also built their first boat for the Beer Can Regatta, which HPA was the beneficiary for. The staff loved being involved and raised $30,000 which enabled HPA to purchase an embroidery machine to facilitate further skills training for employees and build on the capabilities of what HPA has to offer.
HPA encourages employees to be an active part in the community and also works with other disability service providers to promote an all-round good quality of life for Territorians with disabilities.
