About Florence Henaway
2016 Excellence in Improving Participation
Florence Henaway was nominated for her outstanding work in many areas, particularly for her passion and commitment to reconnecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients to country and their people, and with recognition of their culture, heritage, individual interests and goals.
Flo tries everything possible to make the connection to family, friends, communities and community life. Flo has achieved significant results implementing the Return to Country travel program for clients, enabled 11 Aboriginal services users to prepare for and attend the NAIDOC Ball, participate in NDAIDOC week including the annual march through Darwin. Flo also manages the Community Participation Program, an example of this was facilitating art classes that led one client to now sell her art professionally.
She always has the client’s best interest and wishes in all she does.
Flo encourages and motivates staff to develop their skills and reach for higher goals. She encourages continuous improvement, provides strong line management and debriefing; and has made many positive changes to service provision to service users. She is an asset to Life Without Barriers.
