The NT disability services sector was out in force in Darwin on Friday night, celebrating the achievements of individuals, teams, organisations and businesses nominated in the 2016 NT Disability Services Awards.
A record number of 43 nominations were received recognising 22 organisations from around the Northern Territory in a positive endorsement of the outstanding work of those people working to improve the lives of people with disability in the Territory.
The 2016 winners in the following categories were:
Emerging Leader – Ashleigh Pead, Lifestyle Solutions
Excellence in Improving Learning and Development – Acacia Hill School, Alice Springs
- Highly Commended – Donna Rousham, NT Variety Starfish Swim Group
Excellence in Improving Participation – Florence Henaway, Life Without Barriers
Excellence in Promoting Community Awareness – HPA Helping People Achieve
- Highly Commended – Thevi Chelliah, Palmerston Senior College Special Education Centre
Excellence in Innovation – Music Therapy Program, Carers NT
Outstanding Disability Service Employee – Carlie McWilliams, Life Without Barriers
- Highly Commended – Kate Powick, Darwin Skills Development Scheme
- Highly Commended – Rodriguez Wilson, TEAMhealth
Outstanding Business and Community Initiative – HPA Helping People Achieve
The 2016 Overall Award for Excellence was awarded to Ashleigh Pead, winner of the Emerging Leader Award. Ashleigh is a support worker for Lifestyle Solutions based in Tennant Creek. In particular Ashleigh’s provides intensive support to individuals with disability and has initiated several projects in her role, including; procuring donated swags for Camping on Country trips and acquiring a nationally recognised graffiti artist to work on an arts project. Ashleigh was nominated for the variety of skills she possesses, as well as for her commitment to growing and shaping a vibrant, skilled, committed, engaged and proactive team that align to the Lifestyle Solutions values of passion, person centred supports and acting with integrity.
